"Judgment day" has arrived

Bernard Hopkins Judgment day has arrived, the day of his public execution courtesy of Team ‘Calzaghe’ and the Welsh Warrior – The Pride of Wales – Joe Calzaghe.

Bernard Hopkins has been true to form in the lead up to this fight, being and promoting himself to be the archetypal bully, with antics that are no less despicable to the World of boxing than Mike Tyson biting off part of Evander Holyfields ear, and trying to bite a chunk out of Lennox Lewis’s leg.

Those comments “I will never be beaten by a white boy” are as deplorable as physically biting off someone’s ear its just Hopkins is a little more intelligent than Tyson and uses words that’s why his vicious attacks have been verbal and not physical like Tyson’s, so the attacks have been bearable to the viewing public.

Hopkins excuse; “it sells tickets”.

As with Tyson those comments that bring distaste into the sport and into the ring, will be actions that Hopkins will live to regret, because history will always remember this fight as a part of Joe Calzaghe’s boxing legacy (because history reverberates with the names of those that achieved greatness in their lives), a fight that has been overshadowed with racist remarks. So when history does look back, they will always say Bernard Hopkins said “I will never be beaten by a white boy” and Joe Calzaghe taught him a lesson he would never forget for his arrogance and misguided belief by beating him.

Bernard Hopkins bully boy tactics in his pre-fight psychological war took a new twist yesterday that lowered him down even more to the school boy bully by attacking Enzo Calzaghe by stating that Joe is living out his fathers dreams because he himself couldn’t achieve them. Verbal attacks like children have to face in the playground by the likes of kids with the same mentality as the fully grown 43 year old Bernard Hopkins.

The sport is going to enjoy watching this public execution of the big bully Bernard.

This is another part of the psychological war to try and unbalance Joe Calzaghe mentally before he gets into the ring so that when he does step through those ropes he will fight out of rage like Felix Tito Trinidad did when he lost, rather than as a highly trained mentally stable professional World Champion boxer.

Those words will not faze Joe Calzaghe though because they are not true, Enzo Calzaghe has achieved just as much greatness within the World of boxing as his son, just in another arena of the sport, he was awarded the accolade as the Worlds No.1 trainer last year along with the British people’s 2007 trainer award after his Newbridge stable attained 3 Welsh/British World Champions under the one roof in 2007, and Joe Calzaghe hit the legendary milestone of 10 years undefeated World Champion after a massive unification fight against Mikkel Kessler, The Viking Warrior.

Enzo Calzaghe has made his own mark in life as one of the greatest trainers to have ever graced the sport of boxing as the facts clearly prove through his own son Joe Calzaghe who is going into the fight with Bernard Hopkins as a 10 year World Champion, and a 17 year undefeated professional boxer, and he has personally trained 2 other ex World Champions in the shape of Gavin Rees and Enzo Maccrinelli.

”Enzo Calzaghe is his own man” and has trained one of the best boxers to have ever entered the ring, and definitely one of the best if not the best to have ever come out of the British Empire. 2 more fights which includes this one with Hopkins and then we can sit back and say Joe Calzaghe is the best British boxer ever, no matter what the critics say.

Retired Undefeated, the best of the best, no one could beat him, the best pound for pound boxer in his weight range of this era.

This fight with Bernard Hopkins is the fight that will cement his legacy within the World of boxing because if you have not proved yourself on the American stage then you cannot claim greatness due to the fact that the American boxing psyche is one of the biggest influences in World boxing and because of its strength and dominance on the World stage.

If you haven’t conquered America then you have not attained greatness.

Joe Calzaghe has trained his whole life for the job that is ahead in “The Battle of the Planet”, he has beaten everyone that has been placed in his way over 17 years with the door now finally open into the bright lights of Las Vegas and the American dream, the World boxing stage and its tough fighting landscape, and what better introduction to the American people for the humble Welsh Warrior from the valleys than for his fight which is the biggest fight of 2008 against Bernard ‘the bully boy’ Hopkins to be screened live and free to all HBO viewers World wide.

A very public execution of the archetypal bully.

Hopkins himself has said that all roads in life had led to this showdown now due to the fact that both fighters have alluded meeting each other in the ring throughout their careers – Judgment day has finally arrived

There will be the doubters saying that Hopkins is too old when Joe Calzaghe does win, but in Hopkins own words and the harsh truth of the matter is, no matter what the age of Hopkins is, is that the bully boy Bernard is the last man standing in the division after beating everybody else. He is still the No.1 boxer in the light heavy weight division in the World no matter what his age is. If you look at his physique and his career legacy you can clearly see why, this is a highly trained and dedicated athlete who has proved himself to be one of the best in the ring over his career so there is no other fighter out there for Joe Calzaghe to fight than him, no matter what facts are there when analyzing this fight.

At this moment in time until that bell rings tonight U.S time, Bernard ‘the bully boy’ Hopkins is the No.1 light heavy weight fighter in the World and a future hall of famer, the boxing World will awake on the 20th to a new No.1 Light heavy weight champion in the World, in the form of Joe Calzaghe – The Pride of Wales

Bernard ‘the bully boy’ Hopkins has surrounded himself with what he has called the ‘dream team’, everything possible in human terms under the sun to help prepare him for this fight with Joe Calzaghe. He has sought out the best of the best technology that science has to offer to prepare his body for a grueling 12 rounds in the ring, he has sought out the best of the best minds to help him physically and mentally prepare for the battle that is ahead, he has what he believes to be the best of the best trainers to train him to beat Joe Calaghe and he has tried winning the psychological war.

Nothing can physically or mentally prepare him to meet the real “dream team”.

In comparison Joe Calzaghe has stuck to the same game plan that has seen him through throughout his career, Enzo his father training him in the same simple surroundings in the form of the Newbridge boxing club that sits in the Valleys of Newbridge Wales. A small, what many multi-millionaire boxers would call a dilapidated hut in the middle of no where, but the basics that this gym and its surroundings has to offer has produced one of the Worlds No.1 boxers and several other World Champions, so no one can say anything about the humble surroundings that some fighters learn their art in.

Not everyone is able to acquire state of the art facilities to train inside, they have to make do with what they have got, and if Newbridge boxing club is anything to go by, then what you have got and sometimes a little extra, is all that you need to achieve your dreams in life within the sport of boxing.

In my mind, this humble boxing outfit that is hidden well away in the Welsh Valleys has one more unique aspect too it, and that is that heaven is looking down favourably upon it and the head man and family that is in charge there. How else could the humble Newbridge boxing club and ‘Camp Calzaghe’ have achieved such greatness within the World of boxing in the form of Joe Calzaghe, and a stable of proven World Champion fighters other than the divine looking down favourably upon the family there? Joe Calzaghe himself recognizes this fact that’s why every time he steps into that boxing ring the whole World that is watching sees a big Cross tattooed onto the side of his arm that is designed in the Welsh Celtic style, a mark of respect to him, his family and their roots for the World to see, and he always thanks God for his achievements – Humble recognition to the one who holds all things in is hands.

There is no ‘dream team’ on Earth that can stand in the way of the real ‘dream team’ ‘Team Calzaghe’ and their protégé Joe Calzaghe.

’Team Calzaghe’ - The mark of Boxing greatness.

Judgement day has arrived and the boxing World is going to wake up to a new Light heavy weight World Champion on the 20th in the form of the living legend Joe Calzaghe – The humble Welsh Warrior from the Valleys

He crossed the Atlantic, he surveyed the landscape, he then conquered the best the people had to offer and then returned home to the Valleys and the Nation to a heroes welcome.

A British sporting hero and icon of this era

”You cannot conquer the un-conquerable”

God bless you Camp Calzaghe
