History in the making

Joe Calzaghe v Bernard Hopkins

Bernard Hopkins has had his chance of making history within the boxing ring, and yes he has done well but history will never remember him because he is missing that one special ingredient – Retired Undefeated – No one could beat him, he was the best of the best of that era of boxing.

Joe Calzaghe has that ingredient set before him that’s what makes this sporting event unique, and of historical proportions within the boxing world and the annuls of the sport.

"Battle of the Planet"

Bernard Hopkins will always be remembered as another one of those fighters on Joe Calzaghes scalp sheet, so he will go down in history but for all the wrong reasons.

Give him his due’s though as a boxer, he has stepped up to the plate to try and stop Joe Cazlaghe from entering the annuls of boxing history, but he wont be able too.

Is this a sign of his pride or his bully boy attitude of wanting to be the best when he sees someone better than himself out there?

Either way it is my personal opinion that Bernard Hopkins cannot stand in the way of the Joe Calzaghe steam roller and those glorious history books.

The names that reverberate through history are names like Rocky Marciano, why do they reverberate through history? It is because they achieved something very few other fighters were able to achieve in their era.

Unique sporting individuals – The best of the best!

The thing is though is that Rocky Marciano is from the distant past, where the new generation do not look only hear, but his memory and legacy lives on in his name, because his name means greatness within boxing.

We are in a new era with new sportsmen aiming for personal and professional achievements in this generation, with Joe Calzaghe being the one who stands out from everyone else, 2 fights away from retirement and an unblemished record.

History will "always" remember Joe Calzaghe if he accomplishes what he set out to accomplish, because his name will reverberate throughout history as associated with boxing greatness like Marciano, and all those at ring side watching this fight which is history in the making will be able to say to their children and grandchildren “I was at that Joe Calzaghe fight when he defeated Hopkins, Hopkins said he would never be beaten by a white boy and Joe taught him a lesson for his arrogance and misguided belief”

So those words of Hopkins will live on well into the future.

God bless you ‘Team Calzaghe’
